Research and Development

Research and Development (CIS)

The development of new products is one of the pillars in the strategic plan of Laboratorios Sophia, in order to offer products and services that fully meet the needs of physicians, patients and general public.

Objective

The main objective of the Research and Development area is the development of products with high quality standards, subject to compliance with international regulations and guidelines. The working areas of all the projects are as follow:

  • Antiallergics
  • Antibiotics
  • Antiglaucoma drugs
  • Steroidal and Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
  • Controlled Release Devices
  • Artificial Tears
  • Viscoelastic

Each product is developed based on the Quality by Design concept to ensure that everything planned in the early stages of development results in a product that meets all the required specifications and/or quality characteristics for proper operation. In the internal institutional politics, the developmental work is based on the philosophy recommended by The International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH).

Innovation and quality are the greatest commitments, which are focused on finding new ways of treating eye diseases.

Research and development are priority activities that have allowed patenting new formulations.

The physicochemical and microbiological research and development laboratories have cutting-edge infrastructure and analytical equipment such as: liquid chromatographs coupled with mass (HPLC-MS), gas chromatographs (GC), UPLC, infrared and UV-VIS spectrophotometers, differential calorimeter, among others.

From an analytical perspective, the specifications and analytical methodology are based on national and international references, and enable to support the right pharmaceutical development and to verify the quality of all raw materials, bulk and finished products.
